  • How is the academic year scheduled?

    For most our institutes the academic year begins in 2nd week of June and ends by the end of April.

  • How are semesters scheduled?

    1st semester begins in 2nd week June and ends in 2nd or 3rd week of October and 2nd semester begins in 2nd week of November and ends by the end of April.

  • What are the big breaks in the year?

    There are two big breaks. One is during DIWALI - India’s biggest Hindu festival - for 3 weeks and the other is during Christmas - for about 10 days.

  • Where is Somaiya Vidyavihar located in Mumbai?

    Somaiya Vidyavihar is a suburb of Mumbai called Vidyavihar. It is situated in Vidyavihar East and is well connected by trains and buses. One can take a taxi from the airport to reach the campus.

  • Is there any kind of dress-code in the campus?

    Yes, there is. The students are expected to wear decent clothes that will cover the body well. They are not permitted to wear sleeves-less dresses on the campus.

     

  • Are there any other restrictions?

    The campus is vegetarian and in all the canteens only vegetarian food is served.  There is ‘no smoking’ on the campus. The behaviour of all is expected to be very decent and we value & respect traditions and culture of our country.

  • What is the temperature like in Mumbai?

    Mumbai’s temperature is temperate.  Neither very hot in summer nor too very cold in winter.

  • Would I need woollen clothes while I stay at Somaiya Vidyavihar?

    Not really. You may require very light woollen clothes in the mornings in winter. But, if you intend to travel to north of India then the winters can be very cold and you will require heavy woollens. 

     

  • How is the public transport? Can one take it easily?

    Public transport in Mumbai is by local trains and buses. They are reasonably well scheduled and one can buy tickets for a day or a week or a month. The combination of trains and buses can take you to any corner of Mumbai city and suburbs.

  • What are the places of interest nearby?

    There is a wide variety of places of interest and one can choose from them as per the time available and the interest.  For more information log on to http://www.mcgm.gov.in

     

  • Are the taxis available easily?

    The taxis – black & white – are running on the road and one can take any that is vacant. Also there are other private companies – Meru, Gold and Mega - that provide taxi services on call.
